Our Story
There is no easy way to tell this story.
Some say we’re brave, some say we’re silly,
For those who knew, may say that about our story.
Two schools nearby, one ocean away,
As if it’s been planned, that we meet in Ann Arbor some day;
One day thirteen years ago, Thanksgiving winter snow,
Our lives were set to cross, in the dorm of South Quadrangle.
Little did we know, time flies and we had to go,
The tears and joy of Michigan, was a life to outgrow;
Graduation comes with opportunities,
Confusion and frustration with career possibilities,
Chances of us going to New York, was a statistical probability?
Friends from school, the City was cool,
We have to thank New York, that’s where our love grew;
It’d have been easy, to say that was our story;
Sooner than we realized, we were in two countries.
An ocean apart, two lonely hearts,
Was it a test, that’s impossible to pass;
Oxford is in England, so is the City of London,
Half of us in the States, while the other half in Great Britain.
Boarding pass after boarding pass, long distance relationship class,
We have yet to find, a calling card that lasts;
Emails, phone calls, letters and cards, staying in love was an art,
When we closed our eyes every night, we reached for the trust in our hearts.
Times that we missed other, always seemed like forever,
Wasn’t much but we cherish, the time that we spent together.
It’s time for a new chapter, it is our promise to each other,
No matter the sky rains or shines, that we’ll be together forever;
Perhaps it was our love, perhaps we were tough,
But it’s also our families and friends, who we cannot thank enough.
Remember the times we headed nowhere,
Remember the tears we shed,
Remember the joy we shared,
Remember the reasons why we cared,
Consider us very lucky,
Today we share.
